The YES Yakushima vehicle rental services include arrangements for car, 50cc scooter and bicycle. We conduct the arrangements in English so the details are easy to understand. Unlike any other booking agents, YES are based upon the island and are able to help in times of trouble with vehicle rental with our English support service. In the unfortunate event of an accident then we can help out with information between the customer and the vendor. When flights and ferry`s are cancelled or delayed then YES can inform the renting agency of any delay or cancellation.

YES will always give car rental priority to guests who also book Yakushima accommodation with us as a token of gratitude for supporting our policy of preventing booking commissions being paid to businesses not connected with Yakushima. Guests also booking Yakushima accommodation with YES shall also receive a better car rental fee.

IMPORTANT! For all visitors wishing to rent a car or scooter

The first thing you need to know about renting a car in Japan is that you’ll need an international driving license. Visitors from certain countries may require an official translation of their driving license. Details on how to receive a translated license or other license issue can be found on the Japan Automobile Federation website (JAF).

DO NOT request a vehicle rental if the booking request is less than 48 hours in advance. Years of experience inform us that visitors who book late are less reliable.

Other Yakushima car rental companies may not reply to your request for a vehicle as they cannot handle communication in English. Therefore, to avoid double-booking a car rental do not request a vehicle from a different Yakushima car rental agency.

All car rental bookings include insurance and tax. Due to the high volume of road accidents on Yakushima then inclusion of insurance is mandatory and non-negotiable.

Changes to the rental agreement caused by flight / ferry delays / cancellations etc are permitted free of charge. All other changes to the car rental agreement will incur an administration charge of 2,000 yen. Therefore, please be sure of the dates & times you wish to book the car rental are correct.

In most cases the vehicles will be delivered to the port or airport for your arrival. When making a reservation, please let us know the EXACT arrival date & time and Location. DO NOT send approximate times as you will be charged an administration fee (2,000 yen) if changes are required.

Visitors booking Yakushima accommodation with YES shall be given car rental priority.

HIKING GEAR

If you do not have the correct gear and don`t wish to carry heavy hiking boots on an international flight then YES can arrange hiking gear rental on Yakushima.

Save a lot of luggage space by leaving all your hiking gear at home and renting the items only when you need them. Hiking boots, rain wear, rucsacs, hiking poles, tents, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, cooking equipment, headlights, baby carriers. Send your hiking rental gear requirements to YES.
